In the world of bars and bartenders the most recent hype is based on signature mixology. This concept is based on cocktail menus customized to suit the bar or the client, where the bartender has a variety of mixers, liqueurs and spirits to create flavors never experienced before.

In this form of mixology it's the bartender who designs the shape, the aroma, the color to new cocktails, which can be evolutions of existing ones or entirely new creations.

Mixology has no limits and neither have bartenders, that's why new trends keep emerging in the creative cocktail world. In past editions of this column we have presented the classics, the Tiki movement and creative cocktail mixing for every occasion.

Our experimental bartenders have spent quite some time in their laboratory (the bar) testing new creations with wine as a base.

Take a look at some of the interesting results they came up with.

cocktails for dadJune 14, 2016

It's June, the month of all Dads. Being this the Mixologist's Column, let's honor dad from behind the bar. If a bartender wanted to entertain his father on that special day, he would think of strong, woody flavors.

So, rather than buying him the usual unspectacular presents like slippers, ties and the like, why not surprise Dad with a cocktail kit and his favorite spirit? Imagine the pleasure he'll take from experiencing new flavors while reading a book, listening to some cool grooves or entertaining his friends.

Digestive cocktails are known as short drinks. They are usually composed of ingredients or elements that promote the digestion of a meal.

These cocktails can be classified into sweet, semi-sweet and creamy cocktails. The first category is based on a mix of a strong and a sweet liquor. The second uses balanced ingredients, and the last is made with milk as the main element.

Mixologists have the opportunity to explore their creativity with digestive cocktails, beyond the traditional (straight) digestive shot usually served at the end of a heavy meal. Here we share some recipes that you can play with the next time you have guests over for dinner.

The decoration of food and beverages has been part of the culinary history for centuries. In recent years, the garnishing of cocktails has evolved a lot, to the point where it seeks to capture not only the flavor, but also the aroma, the season of the year and the environment in which they are consumed.

Caribbean women with colorful flowers necklaces are as characteristic of tiki culture as refreshing cocktails with exotic decorations. Tiki drinks make generous use of tropical fruits and spices, come in artful presentations and have one common denominator: Caribbean rum.

The Tiki culture was born in the United States in the 1930s, inspired by Polynesian themes. Tiki  cocktails are usually ice cold, natural, balanced and, above all, very well elaborated. Among the most famous ones, here are just a few: Mai Tai, Zombie, Fogcutter, Navy Grog, Chief Lapu Lapu, Painkiller and Suffering Bastard.

Let us show you some easy to prepare Tiki cocktails for this summer:

The barman, master of cocktailsOctober 1st, 2015

Cocktail mixing, or mixology, is a form of creative expression and has been an art since its beginning. It all began when barmen started mixing alcoholic beverages with fruit juice.

The term cocktail was coined because the bartenders initially used to decorate these spirits with long rooster tails. Among the art of mixology, the Martini stood out pretty soon as the "King of Cocktails".
